Treatment of Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Bruxism is a condition in which a person clenches, grinds and presses their teeth together. Bruxism patients may grind their teeth unconsciously while awake and also clench their teeth while asleep. Individuals who grind their teeth while sleeping are at high risk of snoring or suffering from sleep apnoea. In some people, bruxism is so severe that it can cause tooth damage, jaw disorders or headaches.

As bruxism often occurs during sleep, patients may not be aware that they are suffering from bruxism. The diagnosis can only be made by specialised dentists by examining the jaw and teeth.
