Porcelain Inlay – Onlay

Inlay-onlay porcelain fillings are a type of filling used instead of crowns as a treatment method for teeth damaged by severe decay. ‘This form of porcelain filling is specially made in a laboratory and placed on the tooth that is completely free of decay. It is very compatible with the natural structure of the tooth.

Whereas standard fillings are mostly used for minor damage, porcelain inlay-onlay fillings are preferred to prevent large-scale damage caused by caries and to protect the tooth structure.

Porcelain inlay fillings are preferred when only one surface of the tooth is damaged. The structure of the tooth is strengthened by completely filling the gap in the tooth.

Porcelain onlay fillings are used for damage to both the top and sides of the tooth. Like the inlay, the gaps in the tooth are filled and its structure is reinforced.

With porcelain inlay-onlay fillings, the solid tissue of the tooth is preserved because the procedure is only performed on the damaged area. Its harmony with the natural tooth substance means that it can be used for years without any problems. The risk of another caries outbreak in the same area is thus eliminated. Those patients who are allergic to normal filling materials prefer porcelain fillings.
